Illinois Humanities, the Illinois affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, is a statewide nonprofit organization that activates the humanities through free public programs, grants, and educational opportunities that foster reflection, spark conversation, build community, and strengthen civic engagement. We provide free, high-quality humanities experiences throughout Illinois, particularly for communities of color, individuals living on low incomes, counties and towns in rural areas, small arts and cultural organizations, and communities highly impacted by mass incarceration. Founded in 1974, Illinois Humanities is supported by state, federal, and private funds

Needs our help.

The Ottawa V.F.W. (Veterans of Foreign War), welcomed a new commander (Mike Gladd) on July 1, 2022. He immediately took charge and began a new management transition, but unfortunately, it was a little to late. Due to the small membership and poor management the Ottawa VFW was closed this week. This small, but proud group of Veterans are asking the public for financial assistance, to help re-open the VFW.
The VFW was founded in the early 1900’s and has been a staple in Ottawa, Illinois for many years. This facility is located at 1501 LaSalle St. in Ottawa.
The “V” as it is sometimes referred to, has always been and will continue to be open to the public. There is a full bar, with a pleasant atmosphere, a separate gaming area, a rental hall, open to the public.
These Veterans of the Halterman-Koeppe-McCarrens Post 2470 deserve Honor and Respect, plus a facility to enjoy camaraderie.
America May be battling inflation, but, Veterans have battled for our freedom for many years.
Please consider a monetary donation to help re-open the VFW Post 2470 in Ottawa, Illinois.
Donations may be mailed to:

The Mike Nowak Show with Peggy Malecki is all about growing things and greening the world.
The Mike Nowak Show with Peggy Malecki airs at 8:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday
You won’t find a deeper shade of green in any medium. Mike and Peggy begin with gardening and go on to the environmental issues that are of concern to all of us. Yes, you can find out how to keep your roses healthy and hear other gardeners rant about deer and rabbits. But you’ll also learn about sustainable growing practices and local food. You’ll listen to some of the most knowledgeable people in the country talk about the effects of a newly variable climate and the ways we need to adapt to and mitigate the changes we’re seeing.
Mike and Peggy are great interviewers, approaching their subjects with all the serious they deserve and all the humor they allow. And meteorologist Rick DiMaio contributes a scientific but also practical and personal view of weather and climate.
